BANGOR 2-0 DUNDELA

Carnegie First Division
Match Report by Neil Watson
Thursday 27th April 2006
In a typical end of season game with nothing
but pride at stake for either team, it was Bangor who found
the opening goal after 10 minutes. A Jackie Kerr throw-in
from the right was glanced towards goal by Brian Russell.
The unmarked Andy Morrow pounced on the loose ball to poke
home from 6 yards.
Bangor doubled their lead after 23 minutes
from the penalty spot. Kenny Camlin’s teasing cross
from the left was controlled by a defender’s arm giving
referee Hugh Carville no option but to award the penalty.
Cullen Feeney slotted the ball past Miskelly to record his
6th goal of the season.
Dundela’s first effort on goal arrived
after 39 minutes. A through ball from Johnny Nixon found
Glenn Upton in space 12 yards from goal. Fortunately for
Bangor, Upton’s attempted chip was easily gathered
by Brown.
Ryan Brown was again called into action moments
later to deny Upton. This time it was Davies who played
in the forward, but under good defensive pressure, Upton
could only direct his shot straight at the advancing Brown.
On the stroke of half time, Andy Morrow capitalised
on a poor header by Hylands which left Miskelly struggling
to reach the ball. Morrow nipped in and laid the ball back
to Kenny Camlin, but from 20 yards out, the forward’s
chip sailed over the crossbar.
Half time: 2 – 0

The second half only sprung into life after
65 minutes. A fine passing move involving Russell, Dunlop,
Morrow and Camlin created space on the edge of the Dundela
penalty area allowing Dunlop to force Miskelly into a save
low to his right.
Dundela came close to pulling a goal back
a minute later through Brian Hylands. The former Bangor
man tried his luck from 25 yards, but his curling effort
flew just wide of the right hand post.
Kenny Camlin had a goal ruled out for offside
after 70 minutes. Jim McCloskey cut in from the right wing
before sliding the ball across goal to Camlin who tapped
home only to have his celebrations cut short by the referee.
A minute later, it was the same Bangor combination
which opened up the Dundela rearguard. Again McCloskey advanced
down the left flank before crossing towards Camlin who directed
his header a foot over the crossbar.
Bangor could have extended their lead but
for a fine Tony Miskelly save after 85 minutes. Jackie Kerr’s
right wing cross was headed towards the top corner by Andy
Morrow from 6 yards. Unfortunately for Morrow, Miskelly
produced a fine reaction save to push the ball around the
post for a corner. From the corner, Brian Russell volleyed
just wide when well placed.
Right at the death, substitute Gareth Larmour
forced Miskelly into another fine save with a rasping drive
from the left corner of the penalty area. Moments later,
Andy Massey almost added to the Bangor lead, but his downward
header from a corner bounced agonisingly wide of the left
upright.
