Knockbreda

The Seasiders have missed out on promotion to the NIFL Championship. Today's 2-0 defeat at Breda Park means that Knockbreda win the tie 4-2 on aggregate.

In front of a bumper crowd, Bangor started the game well. Ben Arthurs nearly snatched an early opener after 5 minutes, but his lobbed effort drifted just wide of the upright. Jamie Glover also had an effort well saved by Deane.

Following a goal less first half, the Seasiders struggled to keep up the pressure, and Knockbreda took full advantage when a corner kick was bundled over the line from close range in the 51st minute. Knockbreda extended their lead two minutes later when Greer blasted home a loose ball in the area.

Bangor made little headway against a resolute Knockbreda defence in the second half and unfortunately our season has ended with disappointment.

Knockbreda

THE LATE, LATE SHOW

Injury time goals from Ben Arthurs and Zac Fletcher mean the Seasiders still have everything to play for as we head in to Saturday's second leg tie at Breda Park.

Bangor got off to a bad start when Heggarty slid the ball past Anderson in the second minute. A Dylan O'Kane strike from distance and a lobbed effort from Arthurs were all that Bangor had to show for their first half efforts.

Knockbreda extended their lead in the 57th minute when a headed clearance fell kindly for Max Greer to smash the ball into the roof of Anderson's net.

In a high drama finish, Bangor found a road back into the tie in the 94th minute when a deep cross from the right was nodded in from close range by Ben Arthurs.

A minute later, Clandeboye Park erupted and Bangor were level when Zac Fletcher ghosted in to head home a rebound off the upright.

Total BS

The Seasiders are pleased to announce a new link up with local startup company TOTAL Ballboy Systems.

We will be trialling their new and innovative ball recovery drone service at first team home matches over the coming weeks.

The system will see an airborne monitoring drone fly overhead and track the match ball throughout the game. When the match ball is detected as leaving the pitch enclosure, one of four ground-based drones will then be automatically dispatched to recover it. In most cases, the ball is returned to the pitch within a matter of seconds!

A spokesman for TOTAL Ballboy Systems said "Football clubs lose quite a number of match balls over the course of a season and this can prove to be quite costly. We are delighted to have this opportunity to link up with Bangor to help them reduce those costs. Our team recently gave the club a full demonstration of our Ball Recovery Service and they were all very impressed!"

The Seasiders hope to have the TOTAL Ballboy System ready in time for Saturday's home match against Limavady United.

Bangor recorded their first home league win since October with an emphatic 3-1 victory over Portstewart at a sunny Clandeboye Park this afternoon.

Mark Cooling sent the Seasiders on their way in the 15th minute when he pounced on a loose ball inside the area to steer the ball into the bottom corner of the net. David Hume nearly grabbed a second after half an hour when launched a speculative lob from just over the halfway line that had Findlay scampering back to save on the goal line.

Jordan Hughes went close in the 49th minute when he crashed a 20 yard strike off the Portstewart crossbar. Bangor finally grabbed their second when Reece Neale was on hand to poke home a rebound from a Lewis Harrison shot. Eight minutes later, Karl Devine found a path through the Portstewart defence and placed the ball past Findlay for Bangor's third.

Portstewart grabbed a late consolation when Vauls headed in at the back post.

Ivor

Bangor FC Commercial manager Ivor McGucken has welcomed progress off the pitch at Clandeboye Park.

Ivor said: "Bangor FC has changed immeasurably both on and off the pitch over the past few years. There are more and more businesses supporting the club who haven't been involved before. They've bought into the community ethos at Clandeboye and where we want to go.

"Attendances at home matches are increasing and our social media following is also growing. We are pushing for promotion this season and local business like to get involved with teams who are aiming for success. There is a real appetite in the local area to get involved with Bangor FC."

Ivor joined the Seasiders as Commercial manager in 2017. He is experienced in the field of work, having held this position with a number of other Irish league clubs. Ivor has also previously played, coached and managed Bangor FC.

Ivor continued: "The club has come a long way since the board took charge over four years ago. They have stabilised the finances, developed and modernised the social club, improved and cleaned up the ground and setup a new academy with 150 local players. On the field, the team has won its first league title and is now challenging for promotion back to the NIFL Championship.

"We must not forget that all of this has been completed in partnership with supporters, friends and the local community. We are very lucky at Bangor to have people around that care so much and are so passionate about the club.

"From a commercial viewpoint, I’m pleased with where we are at present, but I believe this is only the start and I'm confident that we can do a lot more."

Michelle Crawford has been appointed as Head of Women's Football at Bangor FC.

Michelle Crawford

Crawford, a UEFA B licence holder, has over 17 years coaching experience, including 10 years with Linfield FC.

The new role will initially include increasing the participation of girls in the Bangor FC Mini Soccer Academy, with the aim of growing academy teams for girls.

Michelle will also support and work with the Bangor FC senior ladies squad, with the main goal of them becoming a NIFL Women’s Premiership team.

Bangor FC Chairman Graham Bailie said: "Michelle's appointment is a clear statement that football for girls and women is at the forefront of our thinking at Bangor FC. Michelle has extensive coaching experience with a top local club and has a strong belief in how best to develop young players from North Down and the surrounding areas.

"This is another positive step forward for Bangor FC since the new Board took control a few seasons ago. It is another accomplishment for the club, as we continue with our objective of being a community-based club and ensuring all our senior teams reach the highest echelons of football in Northern Ireland."

Michelle Crawford said: "Bangor FC is a progressive club and is the perfect fit for what I currently want to achieve in my career. I want to now pass on my knowledge and experience in helping to promote up-and-coming players.

"I want to ensure girls and women in Bangor, and the surrounding area, are given opportunities to play football for their local hometown club. This is a key objective of the Board.

"I understand how ambitious and driven the current Board is at Bangor FC. Their honesty and enthusiasm was a huge draw for me to take this position, along with a blank canvas in regards to setting up the girls youth structure at the club."

SEASIDERS CLOSE IN ON LEADERS WITH HOLM WIN

Bangor moved to within one point of Armagh City with an emphatic 3-0 victory over the league leaders at Holm Park this afternoon.

Jamie Glover sent Bangor on their way in the 4th minute when he brushed off a couple of challenges to hit a deflected shot into the Armagh City net.

Bangor's second goal came ten minutes into the second half when Karl Devine sent Jack Upritchard through to fire a well placed shot into the top corner of the net past the stranded Byrne.

Newington

The Seasiders got back on track this afternoon with a vital 3-2 victory over title challenging Newington at Solitude.

Bangor started strongly and took the lead after 28 minutes when an inch perfect cross from Zac Fletcher found Dylan O'Kane who crashed home a header from 10 yards.

Jamie Glover robbed the ball from the Newington defence on the left wing and saw his drilled cross deflect into the Newington goal to make it on 2-0 to Bangor after 38 minutes.

Four minutes later, Ben Arthurs raced through to slide the ball past Maybin to make 3-0 to Bangor at the break.

HALF-TIME: Newington 0-3 Bangor

A revitalised Newington side started the second half well and pulled a goal back from the penalty spot in the 50th minute. Matty Anderson had to pull off a number of smart stops, but could do little to stop a header from Lundy in the 68th minute to put Newington right back in the game. Newington forced Bangor back for long spells as the game drew to a close, but swift reactions from Anderson and a last ditch clearance from Reece Neale were just enough to secure the win for the Seasiders.

It has been a busy January transfer window for the Seasiders with a number of comings and goings at Clandeboye Park. The following moves have been confirmed in recent days:

NEW ARRIVAL - NICK ARETZIS

Joining the Seasiders on loan from Larne for the rest of the season is 18 year old Australian central defender Nick Aretzis. Nick is in his second year of a scholarship here in Northern Ireland and he made his debut for the Larne first team in a 3-1 win over Carrick Rangers in December. Nick recently signed professional terms with the Inver Men, but has agreed to see out the remainder of this season with Bangor. Welcome to club Nick!

DEPARTURES

Defender Kyle Calderwood who joined us just a few weeks ago on loan has now been recalled by his parent club Ards.

Goalkeeper Ben Nicholl, who made two appearances for us this season has returned to Carrick Rangers and defender Dylan Snoddon has joined Belfast Celtic.

We wish these players well and thank them for their time at Bangor.

Lisburn Distillery

Bangor had another frustrating day at Clandeboye Park, losing 1-0 to a spirited Lisburn Distillery side.

Both sides squandered several efforts in a goalless first half that saw both Reece Neale and Lewis Harrison strike the Distillery crossbar.

Bangor dominated for long spells in the second half, but eventually fell behind to a breakaway Mick O'Hanlon goal in the 80th minute.

Ben Arthurs had an effort cleared off the line and Dylan O'Kane had a dipping effort from distance tipped over the crossbar by Nicholl.

Ryan joined us in July 2018 and went on to play a key role in our promotion from the Ballymena and Provincial Intermediate League. He was also part of the side that lifted the McReynolds Cup in 2019. We wish Ryan every success at Dixon Park.

Following Ryan's departure, Lee Feeney has bolstered Bangor's defence by bringing in 22 year old Kyle Calderwood who arrives on loan from Ards until the end of the season.
